With the support of the Industrial Development Bureau (IDB) under the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Taiwan Woodworking Machinery Association (TWMA) and the Precision Machinery Research and Development Center (PMC) cooperated and established the W-Team Alliance in 2012. It has designed and developed ten woodworking machinery production lines and allowed manufacturers to sell completed production lines. Today, 79 production lines have been sold, creating NT$780 million in profit.

The ten woodworking machinery production lines include the Automatic Solid Wood Flooring Production Line, the Automatic Solid Wood Finger Jointing Line, the Panel furniture Production Line, the Automatic Wood Boarding Line, the Kitchen Cabinets Production Line, the Smart Veneer Faces Production Line, the Automatic Honeycomb Sandwich Panel Sizing Production Line, the Wooden House Structure CNC Production Line, the Whole Plant for Wooden Hanger Making Machinery project and the Fire Door Automatic Assembly Line. The key overseas markets include Vietnam, China, Australia, and Canada.

Taiwan’s woodworking machinery industry has around 300 local manufacturers. Most are small- and medium-sized enterprises. It is mainly based in a cluster located in the Feng-yuan and Sheng-gang regions of Taichung City. The industrial cluster includes all the business from across the supply chain. It also reduces transportation costs and waiting times; the manufacturers can reach their suppliers and customers immediately. Being an export-oriented industry, the export of total output is above 80%. According to the International Trade Centre (ITC), Taiwan was the fourth-largest woodworking machinery exporter in the world in 2016. Its total export reached US$521 million, and the share of total exports was 7.6% worldwide.

W-Team manufacturers already have experience in integrating software and hardware. In the future, through the development of the entire production line, ICT will be used to strengthen smart manufacturing services and innovative new business models. W-Team manufacturers are helping promote the upgrading and transformation of the woodworking machinery industry. Taiwan’s woodworking machinery industry aims to become the third-largest exporter in the world in the future.
