Indonesia - Taiwan Industry 4.0 Cooperation Forum Debuts in Jakarta

To promote bilateral exchange and cooperation between Taiwan and Indonesia in the Industry 4.0 field, the 2019 Indonesia-Taiwan Industry 4.0 Cooperation Forum sponsored by the Industrial Development Bureau at Ministry of Economic Affairs, and organized by the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) and Indonesia’s Paramadina Public Policy Institute (PPPI) was held on Tuesday May 21st at the Westin Hotel in Jakarta.

Ambassador John C. Chen of the Taipei Economic and Trade Office in Indonesia (TETO) stated in his opening remarks that “Making Indonesia 4.0” is a national policy strongly promoted by the Indonesian government, meanwhile Taiwan has high concentration of high-tech industries. Taiwan’s relevant industry technology capacities and Industry 4.0 implementation experience can assist Indonesia to successfully march toward the 4.0 era.

Indonesia’s Minister of Industry Airlangga Hartanto delivered a keynote speech on Making Indonesia 4.0 at the forum. Dr. Jack Chang, Deputy General Director of the Industry, Science and Technology International Strategy Center of ITRI Taiwan introduced the development experience and competitive advantages of Industry 4.0 in Taiwan. Johnny Darmawan, Chairman of the Manufacturing Committee of the Indonesian Employers' Association (APINDO) explained the Industry 4.0 development roadmap for Indonesian companies and opportunities for technical cooperation with Taiwan.

Four well-known Taiwanese companies including Logic Art Automation Co., Ltd., Fu Chun Shin Machinery Manufacture Co., Ltd., Kwang Yang Motor Co., Ltd., and Advantech, shared their experiences in Industry 4.0 with the audience. Four well-known Indonesian manufacturing groups including Pan Brothers, KFSP, Astra Otoparts Winteq, and Polytron also shared their experiences in improving manufacturing technology and developing international markets.

The Industrial Development Bureau at Ministry of Economic Affairs promotes bilateral exchanges and collaboration between government agencies, industry associations and think tanks with key New Southbound Policy countries to assist Taiwanese industries explore new market opportunities. Through the collaboration of prominent think tanks from Taiwan and Indonesia, this forum invites well-known enterprises from both sides to deepen mutual understanding and create cooperation opportunities.
