IDB collaborates with SEMI & AIT DIGI+xTCA 2021 International Digital Talent Matching

To encourage international professionals in the semiconductor industry and digital economy to join Taiwan's industrial workforce, the Industrial Development Bureau (IDB) integrated its "DIGI+ Talent Accelerator & Jumpstart Program" and "Talent Circulation Alliance Program", and joined hands with SEMI and American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) to organize "DIGI+ x TCA International Digital Talent Matching" online event on September 17, 2021. IDB Director General Jang-Hwa Leu, Global Chief Marketing Officer and President of SEMI Taiwan Terry Tsao, and AIT Economic Officer Patrick Boland delivered opening remarks for the event, which invited more than 25 international technology corporates such as Intel, Micron, Foxconn, Quanta, ect. to offer more than 250 job openings to international talents in areas such as artificial intelligence, data science, AIoT, semiconductor manufacturing, etc. The event was attended by more than 300 people, 20% of whom were foreign professionals living in Taiwan.

In his remark, IDB Director General Jang-Hwa Leu stated that IDB has been promoting the cultivation of cross-domain digital talents since 2017, while working with industry, academia, and research institutions to provide Taiwan's third year college students to Master's degree program students with digital skills training and internship opportunity at corporates or organizations such as Taiwan Mobile, Soft-World Intl. Corp., Industrial Technology Research Institute, National Health Research Institutes, and Metal Industries Research & Development Centre, etc. IDB has thus far trained more than 1,600 cross-domain digital talents, and equipped many non-ICT students with cross-domain skills required for the ICT industry; many of them were therefore employed by companies like TSMC, Mediatek, etc.

This event also provided opportunities for one-on-one online interview to help corporates find quality international professionals. There were also two keynote speeches, featuring Isaac Liang, Head of Spring Professional Taiwan, on the latest trends in international digital talent development, and Jacqueline Chien, Head of HR, Taiwan at ON Semiconductor, on key competency required in the semiconductor industry to help job seekers understand their own position and be aware of the required professional competency.

To fulfill the needs for cross-domain talent in digital transformation, IDB not only continued to assist non-ICT students to become digital talents, but also expanded such assistance to international students this year. As such, IDB provided 59 international students from 23 countries with internship opportunities in Taiwan's industries to accelerate the cultivation of professional talent with international competitiveness and digital skills. Additionally, in order to cultivate more internationally-integrated talents, IDB also selected 20 Taiwanese students for global internship at organizations such as Hotai Daikin, ArcRan, GO SMART, Caloudi, etc. to receive practical training under dual guidance from Taiwanese and international mentors from the U.S., Canada, the Netherlands, Japan, Australia, etc.

Last year, IDB collaborated with SEMI on the "SEMICON Taiwan 2020 Workforce Development Pavilion". This year, both joined force again to organize this international talent matching event. In the future, IDB and SEMI will continue to promote international exchange of Taiwanese talents by organizing international industry exchange forums and connecting overseas experts with domestic industries.
