On June 14 (Taiwan time), Taoyuan, Taiwan was named 2019 Intelligent Community of the Year by the Intelligent Community Forum (ICF). This honor came after the city’s three consecutive TOP7awards.
During the award ceremony, Intelligent Community Forum (ICF) highlighted Taoyuan as the base of Asia Silicon Valley under the scope of Taiwan’s Five-plus-two innovative industries plan. Taoyuan is home to a comprehensive public transportation network, as well as home to widespread Wi-Fi hotspots under the cooperative efforts of telecom operators. Furthermore, Taoyuan is also a proud issuer of over 1.3 million Taoyuan Citizen Cards as a means of connecting its residents with a wide variety of public services and information; this initiative provides Taoyuan a strong basis to become a truly intelligent community.
Winning the title of Intelligent Community of the Year accentuates how the collaborative effort between Industrial Development Bureau (IDB) of MOEA and Taoyuan City Government on the Smart City Development Project has garnered recognition from the global community. For example, the theme Infinite Learning for this year’s ICF awards program is embodied by the Smart City Development Project where IDB subsidizes the company “Webduino” to teach farmers in Taoyuan how to utilize “Internet of Things (IoT)” to realize the essence of smart agriculture. Through this joint effort between the IDB and Taoyuan City Government, this project allows learning to be infinite while bridging the digital divide among citizens. Moreover, the joint effort to roll out Taoyuan Citizen Cards to provide residents with access to various public services in one card shows how this collaborative project helps enhance citizen’s everyday life in the city.
