In line with the New Southbound Policy, the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) has joined with Taiwan’s industry to establish a platform for Asia Pacific collaboration. The Chinese National Federation of Industries (CNFI) and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) held the 2019 Taiwan Vietnam Industrial Collaboration Forum in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam on July 2, 2019. Government officials, industry leaders, academics, and researchers from Taiwan and Vietnam, a total of 450 participants, attended the forum to discuss collaboration in the fields of textile industries, light industry fundamental technologies and automation, and smart city smart applications.

The forum was co-hosted by Chan Cheng-tien, Vice President of CNFI and Vu Tien Loc, Chairman of VCCI. Exchanges were made through discussion forums. The forum conducted matchmaking for businesses to strengthen exchanges and create new opportunities.

Leu Jang-hwa, Director-General, Industrial Development Bureau, and the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) pointed out that the textiles, machinery and automation industries, basic industrial technologies, and electronics information usage fields in Taiwan already possess a good development foundation. The Vietnamese government has also in recent years proposed specific policies for national development, industries and the economy. It is hoped that, through the industries mutual activities to build an industrial collaboration platform, joining together government, research units and businesses to help both sides find collaborative partners, will thus facilitate market development, technology and talent exchanges as well as more collaborative cases. The goal is to identify a target industry each year in the future, contributing to more collaborative cases.

The outcome of the forum led to the signing of four letters of intent, including: Collaboration between Vietnam Invention Association (VIA) and the Metal Industries Research & Development Centre (MIRDC), technology collaboration for textile industries (the Taiwan Textile Federation and the Vietnam Textile & Apparel Association (VITAS)), basic light industry technologies (Perfect Machine Co, Ltd. and Nguyen Thang Phat Co., Ltd.), Smart Education (the Institute for Information Industry (III) and Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU)). These will help secure the foundation for collaboration by both sides.

We look forward to future potential industrial development in the areas of textiles, light industry fundamental technologies and automation, smart cities and applications, as well as continuing to drive and realize industrial collaboration and exchanges, co-create branding and engaging in talent training. This year’s forum was of great importance to Vietnam’s government as well as industries. The MOEA sincerely hopes that such efforts in industrial collaboration between the two countries can create a mutually beneficial environment.
