Under the principles of the Taiwan Intellectual Property Management System (TIPS), the Industry Development Bureau of the Ministry of Economic Affairs (IDB’) incorporated Intellectual Property Management (IP Administration) into the draft of the Corporate Governance Best Practice Principles for TWSE/TPEx Listed Companies last year. The IDB also supplement an IP index into the Corporate Governance Evaluation System, making sure corporations set up IP Management systems including the ‘Plan, Do, Check and Action’ management cycle. IP Management will be divided into five areas: a.) Drawing out policies and goals, b.) Obtaining/conserving/maintaining/utilizing the IP, c.) Providing resources, d.) Responding to risks or opportunities, and e.) Improving auditing, which will also oblige the board of directors to supervise IP Management. Corporations also have to disclose related IP information in their annual reports or on websites. The IDB, Securities and Futures Bureau (FSC), Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE) and Taipei Exchange (TPEx) gathered and hosted an event on ‘Perfecting the Structure of Corporate Governance with IP Management - the Warrant Seminar of IP Management Obligation towards Board of Directors of Listed Companies’ on January 16th. Including the topics of analyzing regulations, sharing firms’ implementation and government counselling, this seminar is meant to fully support listed companies to get into the spirit of the latest regulations, evaluation standards and supplementary measures from government counselling so that firms can instantly implement IP Management legal compliance.
