Taipei, Taiwan- Recently, the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has led to school closures around the world. The Integrated and International Intelligent Learning Industry program created by Taiwan’s Industrial Development Bureau (IDB) quickly jumped into action to organize Industry partners from Taiwan to provide an innovative online course during the outbreak. The course will run from April 22nd to June 1st, and include 12 lessons on the topic of “STEAM education and Computational thinking” for teachers and educators around the world. Through on-line platforms, participants will have the opportunity to learn and exchange ideas. The course has now attracted more than 1,000 participants from over 25 countries, including Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, India, the USA, Russia, Austria, the Netherlands, Bangladesh, Spain, Turkey, Eswatini and Ecuador, and hopefully this model will become a sustainable learning global community in the future.
Due to globalization, the importance and market size of smart education has been continuously growing in the last decade. Taiwan’s government has always supported and put significant resources towards promoting smart education, smart campus, teaching tools, LMS and equipment to provide total solutions for educational partners around the world. During this pandemic, the IDB acted swiftly to put together this online course on STEAM and Computational thinking, hoping to provide teachers and educators around the world with an updated solution to learn at home and also learn a few techniques to apply in teaching and the classroom.
The Integrated and International Intelligent Learning Industry program created by the IDB has over six years of experience promoting smart education, including online streaming courses and Online to Offline (O2O) hybrid learning environments, providing participants with courses that combine online platform interactions, Q&A sessions, online exams with offline DIY workshops and physical practices in reality. The program has been selected by the HundrED Global Collection three years in a row for innovation (2017-2019). As the situation grows worse, more than 160 countries have temporarily closed their schools, and over 90% of students cannot continue their education. By implementing online learning platforms and streaming lessons, the IDB has created a solution for teachers and students to continue their education online. The IDB aims to introduce this solution to everyone and hopes to stimulate discussion globally among educators to come up with more innovative education models. This program is completely free to join.
