The COVID-19 epidemic has had a profound and negative impact on the global economy. Building a digital environment to enable remote working has become the new normal for businesses and organizations. To empower enterprises and individuals to accelerate their digital transformation in light of the epidemic, the Industrial Development Bureau of the Ministry of Economic Affairs partnered with Microsoft Taiwan to initiate a Microsoft Online Tech Forum to deliver to a wider audience online from April 16 (Thu) to 17 (Fri).

The focus of the two-day forum was'digital transformation acceleration'. The keynotes speeches and various talk tracks were broadcasted to audiences online. Notable speakers included the CEO of Microsoft, Satya Nadella, Deputy Minister of Minister of Economic Affairs Chuan-Neng Lin, and Director General Jang-Hwa Leu of the Industrial Development Bureau, Ministry of Economic Affairs, as well as other top technology experts from abroad. The speakers shared with the audiences their take on the current stage of technology development and the critical factors that enable digital transformation acceleration. In response to the COVID-19 situation, enterprises and organizations must deploy critical digital tools to fully realize the opportunities brought on by digital transformation. At the online forum, Deputy Minister Chuan-Neng Lin filmed a special video message to deliver words of encouragement to industries in Taiwan: 'Although many industries are facing huge impacts brought by the current pandemic, this is also a great opportunity for self-enrichment and accelerating digital transformation for industries. Through in-depth communication with international outstanding lecturers and technical personnel, this will bring enterprises a different imagination and a global vision for digital transformation,' said the deputy minister. 'Also, I would like to express my gratitude to Microsoft's long-term investment in Taiwan. Every year Microsoft brings the world's leading technology insights and technologies to Taiwan. Microsoft also helps build Taiwan as an AI talent pool in the Asia-Pacific region and leads the transformation of the local ICT industry.' Director General Leu also added, 'The government has also begun to look into various subsidies and schemes to stabilize Taiwan`s economic development. Partnering with Microsoft to manage this forum will bring great insights to Taiwan's deployment of digital transformation.'

The future and challenges of industrial digital transformation were discussed at the debut of the Microsoft Online Tech Forum. The forum also delved into how enterprises can build their own tech intensity, improve tech capability for individuals and organizations, and develop new strategies to move towards to digital transformation.
